This wonderful Christmas arrival at London Zoo is baby of mum Gaysha.

ZSL London Zoo have shared a heartwarming video from a hidden 'cubcam' showing her feeding and cleaning the newborn just hours after birth.

You can even see the baby taking its first cute wobbly steps on the straw of their little den.

As seen in the video, a tiger cub's eyes remain closed for the first few days after birth.

The new cub was born at 2.19 am - nearly three weeks ago. It was expected to be a litter of three, but sadly the other two siblings did not survive labour.

Gaysha is doing an excellent job of taking care of her new cub

The mum Gaysha, who is 10 years old, has now started to venture outdoors again to stretch her legs

Zookeepers are very happy to see the arrival of this rare cub after its mother arrived at the zoo on December 16 last year, from Denmark.

He baby will stay tucked away in the warm cubbing den until it receives its first vaccinations.

The vets will also then determine the cub's sex and hopefully, we'll find out the cub's name.

The Sumatran species come from the Indonesian island of Sumatra and are the rarest and smallest subspecies of tiger.

Listed as critically endangered since 2008, the latest figures suggest that just 300 of them remain in the wild.

ZSL London Zoo tiger keeper Lucy Reed said: "The chunky little cub is doing really well in mum's excellent care, and definitely takes after dad Asim in terms of size and strength.

"We've seen some key milestones already, with the little one taking its first steps almost immediately and - more recently - opening its eyes, which are always closed for the first few days after birth.

"At the moment, while we're still keeping a close eye via cubcam, we're also taking care not to disturb the family so that they can bond together.

"We can't wait to get to know the little one as it grows bigger and begins to explore more of its surroundings."

While you can't currently see the cub, as it is snuggling up with mum inside, you can still see dad Asim hanging out in Tiger Territory.
